Project Overview
In June of 2018, students in EDU 758: Educational Leadership spent part of three weeks collaborating on a group inquiry project that addressed the transportation options available to Wake Forest University students who seek to volunteer their time in local schools for the purposes of clinical internships, tutoring, mentoring, volunteering, service learning, and/or research.
Over many years, the Department of Education has found that one of the biggest barriers facing students who seek to participate in service opportunities, clinical experiences, and community engagement is the lack of free, accessible transportation to and from local schools and community centers.
With this barrier in mind, EDU 758 students set out to explore student transportation options to support school and community partnerships in the Winston-Salem area. Among the students' stated goals were: (1) providing students with greater access to the community, (2) limiting costs for students, (3) accessibility for all students, and (4) flexibility for the university.
Students' findings and proposals are explored throughout this site.
